Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is a 3,000-year-old healing technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Acupuncture is based on the principal that the body's life force or vital energy  (qi) circulates along meridians or pathways of energy. If the flow of energy gets blocked, the disruption can lead to imbalance, pain, lack of function, or illness. Acupuncture therapy can release blocked qi in the body, improve the body’s functions and promote the natural self-healing process by stimulating specific anatomic sites--commonly referred to as acupuncture points, or acupoints. Each meridian corresponds to a specific organ such as the lungs, the heart, the kidneys, the spleen, the liver, etc. Stimulating the body’s tissues with acupuncture needles activates neurological, endocrine, muscular, and immunological mechanisms. The selection of points determines whether the outcome will ease pain, reduce blood pressure, stimulate an ovulation or reverse skin conditions. Acupuncture is a holistic, 'whole-body-wellness' approach to health, as it works on the physical as well as the emotional self.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Yes, acupuncture is extremely safe and natural. We use pre-sterilized, disposable, single-use needles to ensure your complete safety.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

Most people who have had acupuncture would describe it as virtually painless or far less painful than plucking out a hair. We use very fine surgical steel disposable needles that do not draw blood and are solid, not hollow. You might experience a dull sensation or tingling near the insertion points during the treatment. These sensations usually subside once the needles are removed.

How long is the treatment?

The initial treatment will take between an hour and an hour and a half. Subsequent treatments take between 45 minutes and an hour depending on your condition or after you have achieved optimal response.

How many treatments will I need?

The length and frequency of treatments vary from person to person and depends on the complexity of your illness, whether it’s a chronic or recent condition, and your general health. Chronic problems usually require longer treatment periods. After completing a course of treatment, maintenance sessions can prolong the results.

Do you take health insurance?

Yes, we accept some insurances. You might consider checking with your insurance provider first to see if acupuncture is a covered benefit under your plan. We also offer free verification of coverage over the phone.
